A Warning to Trump: The Mainstream Media is Not a Friend

President-Elect Trump recently had a meeting in Mar-a-Lago with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, hosts of "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, an attempt to make amends with two of his harshest critics and ultimately turn a new leaf when it comes to his relationship with the media.

"In order to Make America Great Again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair and open media or press," Trump said in a statement. Following the meeting, the President-Elect went on to say that he expects to have additional meetings with others in the media, citing his "obligation to the American public, and to our country itself, to be open and available to the press."

To be fair, Trump did say that these meetings will come to a quick end if he continues to not receive fair treatment, which, let's be honest, is almost certain to be the case.

To an extent, what Donald Trump is trying to do here is commendable. It would be great if the media reported news about the Trump administration in a fair and non-partisan way, rather than resorting to smears and vicious attacks. That way, the American public would get real news and accurate information, which could help inform them in future elections.

But let's keep our feet firmly planted in reality, and not in the Twilight Zone that I described above.

The liberal mainstream media hates this man. They've hated him for years with every fiber of their being, and they've done everything possible to aid in the destruction of his presidency. Host after host on these far-left news networks routinely refer to Trump as a fascist, a dictator, Hitler and worse. They've been engaged in an all-out propaganda campaign, telling their viewers that Trump will come after your rights and end democracy as we know it.

This is the harsh reality of today's mainstream media. This is the reality of their relationship with Trump. And call me a cynic, but I don't see that changing any time soon.

I trust Donald Trump and believe he should do what he feels is best at all times, including trying to improve his relationship with the media. I would just warn him to thread lightly, because these are not journalists he is dealing with - they are liberal activists sitting in fancy newsrooms. Their goal is, and always has been, to destroy him.

Why would they stop now?
